I am now ready to see if the mechanisms
work, or at least at a trial level. I got a scrap six foot 2"
pole and mounted it to a large plywood board. I installed all of
the necessary hardware and waited for some wind. At about 5 to 6
mph the blades started rotating. I'd say they jumped to 120 to
180 rpm, but this is a guess. This was also unloaded. The
assembly seeked the wind and my braking mechanism shut the rotation
down with little effort.
I plan on painting the tail like the American Flag. That's the
easy part. The hard part is now I think I have to figure out what
I am going to do about a tower.
